Local government to target bullying in the workplace

Conference agrees to spread the anti-bullying message, particularly during Young Workers’ Month in November

Bullying and harassment of local government workers must stop, local government conference agreed this morning.

Proposing the motion, Joe Dale from the union’s young members’ forum explained that many young workers in particular do not understand that employers have policies to stop bullying.

On behalf of disabled members, Kathleen Kennedy told delegates that some disabled workers don’t even realise they’re being bullied or taken advantage of, while others don’t complain “because they think that will only make things worse”.

Conference agreed to have a “zero tolerance policy on bullying and harassment,” and, specifically, to campaign on the issue in Young Workers’ Month in November.
