Belfast mental health decision welcomed

UNISON welcomes good decision by Belfast Trust to maintain mental health and learning disability day centres

Following a concerted campaign between the service users, their carers, families, trade unions and some politicians, the Belfast Trust were forced today to re-consider their proposals on mental health services and have now agreed that day care provision will not be closed.

They will work with service users, their families, their carers and trade unions to ensure that these services are maintained going forward.

Ray Rafferty, UNISON chair of the Belfast Trust trade union side stated “this is a good day for patients of the Belfast Trust”.

Joe Lynch, one of the UNISON campaign co-ordinators also welcomed the trust decision stating “community resistance supported by trade unions won the day.”
