Don’t just give something up for new year – give blood

The NHS Blood and Transplant service needs new donors – particularly if they are young, Black or of South Asia origin

The NHS Blood and Transplant service needs new donors to come forward to provide the right mix of blood to match patients’ needs and replace those who can’t donate any more.

The service is particularly looking for new donors who are young, Black and/or of South Asian family origin to reflect the changes in demand from hospitals and make sure that patients have access to the blood they need, when they need it.

During January, many of us often focus on giving up bad habits and taking up better ones. However, what could be a better resolution than saving lives?

What you give could be more important that what you give up, says the service. By donating blood, you will be doing something amazing, feel good and save or improve the lives of up to three people.

UNISON is the only union to have a partnership agreement with the blood and transplant – find out more at the blood.co.uk campaign pages.
