Black History Month – a time to organise

If it’s October, it’s Black History Month: a time to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Black people throughout history.

Black history, and Black British history in particular, is often marginalised: for some people October may be the only time they are interested in Black history.

So this is a key time to acknowledge achievements.

And for branches, Black History Month also provides an opportunity to discuss wider issues affecting the Black community, creating a perfect opportunity to organise and recruit.

UNISON encourages members to mark Black History Month every year and to organise and recruit around it.
