Time to write to your MP about the HCPC’s planned fees hike

UNISON is calling on members registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to write to their MPs about the plans to raise compulsory registration fees by an excessive 12.5%.

The union is calling for a rethink from HCPC to allow time for an accountability hearing with the health select committee.

UNISON also wants HCPC to consider all options for cutting out unnecessary costs instead of raiding the pockets of registrants.

Some 97% of respondents in a UNISON survey of over 4,800 HCPC-registered professionals opposed the fee increase – a level of opposition reflected across responses from other organisations and individuals to HCPC’s consultation.

Members across the 16 affected professions – which include paramedics, occupational therapists, social workers and physios – are disappointed that the HCPC is ignoring their views.

UNISON is urging members to ask their MPs to:

  • sign early day motion no 41 – ‘Flat fee levy on health professionals’;
  • write to ministers asking them to intervene to ensure that the HCPC does not exploit its stranglehold over registrants’ livelihoods, but instead takes measures to cut unnecessary costs.

You can use www.writetothem.com to email your MP.
