General election voting underway

There’s still more than a week to go to election day on 7 May, but voting has already started.

Anyone who has applied for a postal vote will be receiving their ballot papers now. And of course, if you applied, remember to use your vote.

When voting by post, you should:

  • complete your ballot paper in secret;
  • complete the postal voting statement;
  • put the ballot and statement in the envelopes provided;
  • seal the envelope yourself.

And then post your ballot back as quickly as possible to make sure it’s counted.

However, if you’re too late to post your ballot paper back – and remember Monday 4 May is a bank holiday – you can hand it in to your local electoral registration office or take it to your local polling station by 10pm on polling day, Thursday 7 May.

If you need a replacement – if you’ve lost or spoilt your ballot paper – please contact your local electoral registration office. You can get a replacement up to 5pm on election day.

You must collect the replacement in person. If you spoiled your ballot paper, bring the spoiled paper and the rest of the ballot pack that was sent to you.
