Humanitarian concern for Gaza

The UNISON Northern Ireland health service group expressed alarm at “the apparent reckless inclusion of hospital and clinical locations in the targeted bombardment by Israeli forces in Gaza,” when it met on 22 July.

“We are deeply worried that standards of human decency and international obligations on the treatment of civilians are slipping,” said a statement from the neeting.

“While politicians declare responsibility for these standards, it is health workers on the front line who are struggling with death and injury in dangerously unsafe conditions.

“The meeting agreed to invite our health membership across all categories of staff to step out today at workplaces to express humanitarian concern.

“Simple messages of humanitarian concern will be displayed. We do not believe we can stay silent on this.”
