UNISON and UCU join forces to defend sick leave

UNISON and UCU have launched joint training to help further education branches in England campaign and negotiate on sick pay and procedures.

This follows a joint UNISON and UCU survey, which showed that 40% of further education branches in England have suffered cuts to sick pay or the introduction of punitive sickness absence measures.

The campaign will be supported by joint training events and guidance. By working with UCU, both nationally and locally on this issue, UNISON will increase its own ability to resist further attacks.  We have produced training materials and guidance.

Also available for UNISON members in colleges is a short training course that can be held at regional level.  We will be piloting the short training course in London in the Autumn.
