Spike in complaints about social care reveals funding crisis

Responding to today’s Local Government Ombudsman report that complaints about adult social care in England have more than doubled over the past four years, UNISON National Officer Helga Pile said:

“The dramatic spike in complaints is not surprising given that social care is in financial crisis. Staff shortages and funding cuts of 40% are leading to the rationing of care budgets, pressure to cut care packages and conveyor belt assessments.

“This complaint data is the tip of iceberg as many people don’t have the capacity and resources to complain about rushed and undignified care delivered by exploited staff, while many are scared of losing the little they have.”
