UNISON today sent its full support and solidarity to NUT members who are on strike.
The union said that teachers have faced “an outrageous onslaught of additional work and attacks on pay and conditions” from the government, and this is what has forced them to take action.
A recent workload survey by the Department for Education showed that teachers are working a huge number of additional unpaid hours to get their work done, yet the government has sought to make it easier to sack them, hold their pay down and pile ever more demands on them.
UNISON noted that the government should “listen to the NUT and other teachers’ unions, address their concerns and settle this dispute as a matter of urgency.”.
