Would you be interested in a civil partnership? (England and Wales)

Now that marriage is being extended to same-sex couples in England and Wales (and Scotland, under different legislation), the government is consulting on the future of civil partnership in England and Wales.

UNISON believes that civil partnership o which is currently only available to same-sex couples – should be retained and extended so it is available to different-sex couples as well.

This position was agreed at 2011 national delegate conference.

The Westminster government says there is no evidence that people in different-sex couples would like the option of civil partnership.

The consultation includes questions which can only be answered by individuals, not organisations.

So if you are interested in civil partnership, particularly if you are in a different-sex relationship, please respond to the consultation. You don’t have to answer all the questions, just the ones that apply to you.
