A new report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies shows Osborne’s plan is not working.
UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis said:
“Osborne’s plan is clearly not working. There are still huge cuts to vital services which are bound to have a negative impact on the quantity and quality of the services delivered.
“Thousands of households are currently in misery as a result of the floods across the UK. And the situation is made worse because of the Government’s reckless cuts to the police, fire service and the environment agency.
“The impact on social care is also disastrous. More and more vulnerable people are having their home care rationed with 15 minutes ‘care’ slots. And workers are on precarious conditions with zero hours contracts and unpaid travel time.
“Our members in the NHS certainly don’t feel that health budgets are protected. They are struggling to cope with a costly top down re-organisation, rising demand, as well as seeing the effects of expensive drugs and medical equipment inflation.”
The report also overstates the figures for private sector job growth as it fails to account for the privatisation of services and the re-classification of the entire further education sector to the private sector.
