Austerity off the agenda at Barclays

“A tax on bankers’ bonuses could be used to boost the numbers of nurses, teaching assistants, PCSOs, paramedics and care assistants making a difference to millions, not just an over-privileged few” said UNISON chief, Dave Prentis.

Mr Prentis, went on to say:

“Workers across the UK, including our members in the public sector, have had their pay frozen and squeezed as a result of this Government’s austerity agenda.  It seems that austerity is off the agenda at Barclays unless you are one of its thousands of staff whose job has been cut.

“The appalling spectacle of £2.4bn being paid out to Barclays’ staff in bonuses is proof positive that a tax on bankers’ bonuses is needed now”.
