Keep union membership a personal matter

The TUC has organised an anonymous petition to protest against the government’s lobbying bill.

The controversial bill will enable employers and the government to find out who is a union member.

To draw attention to this threat, the TUC has organised an anonymous petition which will be presented in the House of Lords at the report stage reading.

Supporters sign it, but they keep their names confidential and only report their occupation and town of residence. This is to symbolise the desire of union members to keep their membership private if they wish.

The bill returns to committee stage next week (16 December) so UNISON is urging as many members as possible to sign the petition and ‘adopt a peer’.
