UNISON to protest at Department of Education

UNISON, along with three other trade unions, will come together this Wednesday (23 October) to protest outside the Department of Education headquarters in Bangor.

The protest is about the on-going delay in staff receiving their contractual pay award.

The protest will take place at 1pm at Rathgael House.

Speaking on behalf of the unions GMB, Nipsa, UNISON and Unite, Paddy Mackel said:

“Our members have been extremely patient since April waiting on their incremental pay increase. Their patience, however, has worn thin as they see others in the Education sector recieve their increases”.

“Many of our members are low paid” said Mr Mackel. “It is totally unacceptable that a pay increase, which they are contractually entitled to, is withheld as a result of a failure by the department.”

Mr Mackel also stated that meetings with the minister had led nowhere.

“This protest has been called because our members are angry about the treatment they have received”.

All members are encouraged to attend in solidarity.
