Students in Swansea backed their university’s workers this lunchtime, by signing an online petition calling for fair pay.
Across the UK, higher education workers in UNISON, Unite and the UCU are preparing for their first national joint strike on Thursday (31 October) after rejecting a 1% pay offer.
The joint union petition signed by the students in Swansea – and supporters across the country – reads:
“We, the under-signed, believe that fair pay for university employees is essential to recognising their role in the delivery of our internationally renowned higher education system.
“We therefore call upon university leaders to urge the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) to meet with the unions urgently and negotiate an improved offer and avoid a protracted dispute.”
