Pay up for travel time

At least 150,000 to 200,000 homecare workers are paid less than the national minimum wage because they are not paid for the time they spend travelling between the homes of the people that they care for.

This is against the law – and it leads to many good homecare workers leaving the sector because they can no longer afford to do the job.

It is not just the homecare workers who are being hurt, but also the people they care for.

So UNISON is launching a Pay Up for Travel Time campaign to tackle this scandal.

Relevant branches and organising staff have been sent campaign materials and important mapping information of every homecare provider that their council commissions.

You can use these materials to reach out to our existing homecare members – and to recruit and organise the large number of homecare workers who are without a union.
