The NHS Be Clear on Cancer campaign highlights the importance of prevention, early diagnosis and screening of all cancers says UNISON head of health and safety Tracey Harding.
The NHS campaign focuses on kidney and bladder cancer, but Ms Harding says: “It is important all employers raise awareness of all forms of cancer.
“For example, breast and prostate cancer are among the most common forms of cancer and employers can help by offering advice and support, including access to screening services, to all their employees.
“In addition, if the government is serious about fighting cancer, it should be doing more to prevent occupational cancers such as mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos.”
UNISON plays a leading role in the campaign against asbestos in schools.
