Huber Ballesteros, the president of the Colombian peasant workers union was due to travel to the UK to speak to the TUC Congress.
However, he was arrested before he was able to fly to the UK although he was able to send a video message to the conference which was smuggled out from his prison cell.
UNISON is calling on its members to sign a petition launched by Justice for Colombia calling for his release.
