UNISON earns £250 payment for low-paid staff

UNISON negotiations have paid off for low-paid college workers in Northern Ireland, with employers agreeing to pay £250 for each of the the two years from 2010 to 2012.

The payment will be a one-off, not consolidated into basic pay.

UNISON Northern Ireland commented: “After months of effort by UNISON and other unions in the education sector, we are pleased that college employers have decided to offer low-paid non-teaching staff a non-consolidated £250 payment for each of the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 years.”

The offer is supported by Northern Ireland employment and learning minister tephen Farry.
