Darlington local government branch of UNISON organised an event in the town centre on Saturday 11 May, supported by the Tees Valley Public Services Alliance.
Their ‘campaign for the alternative’ highlighted the drastic cuts in council funding since the coalition government came to power.
Members of the public were urged to get involved in forthcoming public meetings when the council is consulting on how to cut a further £14.5m from their budget.
Activists set up a stall and leafleted members of the public, encouraging them to sign their petition to urge the council to look at other options.
