UNISON has supported Show Racism the Red Card for many years and in May the Northern regional office held the launch of their schools’ toolkit.
Regional convenor Clare Williams opened the event by reaffirming the region’s commitment to working with SRTRC, and how it linked in to UNISON’s work on tackling discrimination and campaigning against the far right.
“Our members are actively involved at local level in challenging racist groups, and supporting multiculturalism,” she said.
There was an excellent presentation from year 9 pupils of John Spence School, Tynemouth about the day they had spent with SRTRC and the impact it had on them.
Ged Grebby, chief executive of SRTRC, thanked UNISON for continued support. He specifically mentioned the development day that was recently held in the region with lay and full time-staff which continued to build these links.
