STATEMENT FROM ANNE SPEED HEAD OF BARGAINING AND REPRESENTATION
MLAS step away from complacency on Transforming Your Care
UNISON Northern Ireland welcomes the outcome of today’s debate agreeing to introduce legislation to protect services from privatisation by stealth. We are also delighted that MLAs had an opportunity to question and challenge the Minister on his policy of privatising residential care.
We expect the Minister and the Department of Health to take full account of the decision of the Assembly urging legislation to protect and enhance public delivery of public services.
The assembly should maintain a focus on Transforming your Care (TYC) especially through the scrutiny role of the Health committee. UNISON believes the first step should be to maintain provision of statutory residential homes.
We are also calling on the Minister to take this time to re-examine the overall Transforming your Care policy and to work with UNISON and others to look again at the best way to maintain the world class care and services from within the NHS.
