Bribery was not off limits in UNISON’s recruitment campaign as St James hospital members in Leeds held an easter egg giveaway to tempt new members and Gloucester police offered a prize draw.
At Worcester Royal there were 10 new members and “we could get more as the stall’s here till eight” reported regional secretary Ravi Subramanian.
Yorkshire organiser Laura Haley reported that “team Calderdale is doing well,” they were taking a minute to “restock and have a cuppa” before heading out to recruit some more.
At Nottingham’s Queens Medical Centre rehab support worker and UNISON member Pete Wilkinson dropped by a recruitment stand to show his support: “I heard UNISON was out recruiting in the hospital today to tell people, so I thought I would say hello to show my support.
“After speaking to the stewards at the stall, I decided it was also time for me to get more involved, so I have signed up to be a rep.”
Branch secretary Martin Benn was delighted Pete had decided to get more active in “the best union for all workers providing public services.”
Organiser Cath Bacon reported five new recruits at Halifax’s Battinson Road and new members were joining at NPower Scarcroft.
In addition, there were stalls at Sheffield’s Hallamshire hospital, Bournemouth’s Terrace Cafe Environmental Health and Barnsley health branch.
