The Water, Environment and Transport Branch Seminar will take place on 11-13 October 2013 at the Novotel Hotel, Bristol.
The Seminar is an opportunity for members of the executives, branch activists and officers to discuss the key workplace issues. It is also a good opportunity for newer representatives to learn more about the union at national level.
The programme is still under development but I expect it to include a session on UNISON’s Organising project in which we are deploying a new and innovative approach to recruitment and organising such as the social media, and a briefing on data protection to cover principles of the law.
By popular demand there will be a repeat of Thompsons’ surgery to provide informal employment law advice to branch delegates a separate circular will be issued in due course. We also hope to invite a key speaker on political issues. Details of the Seminar and copies of the registration form are attached to this circular – please pass them on to your members. Delegates/Branches should return their forms to Sandra Jean-Baptiste by no later than Friday 27 September 2013.
Delegates must appreciate that due to contractual obligations we are unable to refund any monies once we have confirmed numbers of delegates attending the event with the hotel. We must receive registration forms with accompanying cheques on time; failing this we are unable to register delegates. It is imperative to adhere to this procedure please.
Please note that we are asking branches to pay the basic delegate charge in advance (all extras, including partners must be settled with the hotel on departure). This will simplify the administrative arrangements and speed up checkout for delegates. We will not be able to accept bookings that are not accompanied by payment. All bookings will be acknowledged.
When you decide on your delegation, please bear in mind UNISON’s requirements for proportionality and fair representation. The Executive would especially like to see more young members attending the seminar.
Although there is no limit on the number of delegates a branch can nominate, limits may have to be imposed if accommodation is insufficient to meet demands – so we may have to allocate places on a first-come first-served basis.
