Commenting on the news that OFWAT will allow water companies to hike their bills, Matthew Lay, UNISON national officer, said:
“OFWAT has handed water companies a licence to print money. Water bill rises will only pile more pressure onto hard-pressed consumers. Water companies already make huge profits and are also cutting terms, conditions, and even pensions for their workers.
“Consumers, especially those on low incomes, need a regulator who will act in their interests. It not, the government should step in and demand action.”
