Commenting on the inflation figures, showing a rise in RPI to 3.3% Dave Prentis, General Secretary of UNISON, the UK’s largest union, said:
“Families are really struggling. Rising housing costs are piling the pressure onto overstretched budgets – they make up a huge proportion of a low-income family’s spending. Even more pressure will build up as the Tory bedroom tax and other tax and benefit cuts hit home.
“Inflation is consistently running above the government’s target. It is time to take action to fuel the recovery that our country so desperately needs.”
