Yorkshire hospital workers strike to save jobs

Up to 500 Yorkshire hospital workers will start a five-day strike this weekend.

The workers from the mid-Yorkshire health branch are striking against the threat of 70 compulsory redundancies.

Following a meeting where the workers voted unanimously to continue with and escalate the action, regional organiser Jim Bell said: “The members remain resolute. They’re determined to do what’s necessary.”

The strike will start at midnight on Sunday and go through to midnight the following Friday.

Dewsbury, Pontefract and Wakefield hospitals will be picketed every day and a rally will take place at Wakefield town hall on Friday at 12.30pm.
