Commenting on the Health Select Committee’s report into the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Helga Pile, UNISON, national officer, said:
“This report confirms that the CQC is moving in the right direction, albeit with some way to go. With the government creating a more fragmented NHS, and cuts hitting social care hard, we need a strong regulator now more than ever before.
“We welcome the considerable push to recruit more inspectors, which will go a long way to improving the oversight of the CQC, as well as safeguarding patient care.
“Inspectors do a tough job – it is crucial that they when in post they get the tools, training and the support they need.”
