UNISON responds to the latest growth figures

Commenting on the growth figures released by the ONS today, Dave Prentis, UNISON General Secretary, said:

“The bad news just keeps on coming. The private sector-led recovery, the government crossed its fingers and hoped for, is not happening. Any slight relief on jobs is being driven by self-employment and a huge growth in part-time work.

“Meanwhile a growing number of hardworking families are facing poverty; struggling to afford basics like fuel, food and to keep a roof over their heads. “Today’s news means the prospect of a triple dip looms even larger. How much longer will it take for the government to admit that it has got it wrong?

“We need a radical plan for growth, and an end to the tide of job losses damaging the public services that people rely on.”
