Government driving country into recession

As quarterly figures reveal that the UK economy has gone back into recession, UNISON, the UK’s largest union, is urging the government to ditch the cuts and take action to get our economy back to growth.

Dave Prentis, UNISON general secretary, said:

“A bad month has got even worse for this government but it is hardworking families that are paying the real price.

“The coalition government is driving our country into recession. Cuts have a stranglehold on our economic recovery. Hundreds of thousands of public sector job losses with more pain to come. As public sector contracts dry up and spending shrinks, the private sector is hurting too.

“Instead of looking to austerity Europe, the government must turn its head to America where public spending has returned the economy to growth. Every day that the coalition government fails to act is another day that communities and hardworking families suffer unnecessarily.”
