New guide offers help in NHS defence

UNISON is keeping up its campaign to defend the NHS with the release of a new guide to help campaigners.

The guide offers help and advice on working within the new set-up to influence key decisions about cuts or privatisation.

UNISON policy officer Guy Collis says: “Although the NHS increasingly resembles a complex mess of new organisations and existing ones, there is scope to get involved – perhaps more than ever before.”

The guide shows where there are opportunities for UNISON members and members of the public to get involved in foundation trusts at a number of different levels, how some of the work of clinical commissioning groups might be influenced, and how the role of local authorities in the NHS can be shaped – both by citizens and by councillors.

Mr Collis continues: “The post-Health Act system is still taking shape, but this guide seeks to equip those that want to get involved with more detail and some useful sources of information and support.”
