Campaigning for a Future that Works in Rotherham
(14/09/12) UNISON’s Leeds Teaching Hospitals branch takes its concerns at the cuts to the skies today, as they release balloons over the city.
Each balloon will carry with it a message from a branch member or a member of the public, expressing their worries about how the government’s austerity measures are not working.
People will have the opportunity to read the messages before they are released.
The branch is using the eye-catching stunt in the city’s Millennium Square, which will start at 6pm, to draw people to attend an event at the civic hall straight after, with speakers and a Q&A session.
The event came just a few days after Rotherham branches held at stall at the town’s annual show to build for the TUC March for a Future that Works on 20 October.
The show, which is the largest free show of its kind in northern England, attracted 80,000 over the weekend.
More than 2,000 signatures were collected on a petition against the cuts and many people filled in cards expressing an interest in travelling to London for the march itself.
