Chris Tansley, a child care social worker, from Nottingham, has been elected president of UNISON, the UK’s largest public sector union.
The father-of-two, who has been a social worker for more than 30 years and is currently a team manager, became a trade union member 35 years ago.
Chris is a member of the general political fund, vice-chair of UNISON’s national joint council and chair of his regional joint council. He is a member of the local government service group executive and the development and organisation committee.
Chris also finds time to act as a lay member on employment tribunals and is the vice-chair of governors at his local primary school.
Chris will be joined on the union’s presidential team by two vice presidents.
Maureen le Marinel, branch secretary for UNISON’s Lancashire police branch, is serving her second term as vice president.
Lucia McKeever, a health care assistant from Northern Ireland, has been elected as the second vice president.
