A ballot over proposed changes to the local government pension scheme in England and Wales will run from 31 July to 24 August.
Before the ballot opens the relevant UNISON service group executives (local government, higher education, community and voluntary, police and justice and water, environment and transport) will meet to agree their recommendations on the proposals. Their decision will be based on consultation with members via regions and branches.
UNISON is now briefing regions, branches and members to let them know exactly what is being proposed from 2014 and to get their feedback on the proposals. The other LGPS unions and the Local Government Association will do the same.
Members who are eligible for membership of the LGPS will receive a ballot paper in the post.
For more information on the ballot and the pension proposals go to UNISON’s website at unison.org.uk/pensions/lgps.asp.
