UNISON-sponsored Daily Mirror special reveals impact of Tory cuts

UNISON is taking its message to the national press as part of a ‘Save our Services’ investigation sponsored by UNISON and published in the Daily Mirror today.

The eight page special exposes the shocking truth about the impact of Tory cuts across the country.

It reveals that in just two years 200,000 local government jobs have been lost with 700,000 public sector jobs expected to go before the next election. The cuts are the result of an austerity drive that will see the most vulnerable suffer as care homes, children’s centres and women’s refuges face the axe.

UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis is featured in the report, urging readers to vote in local elections tomorrow and “let the Tories know how their cuts are harming a nation.”

UNISON is calling on members to vote for public services on 3 May.

The union has funded adverts in national and local papers in England, online and on billboards in London – including Barnet where a long-running industrial dispute is taking place over outsourcing plans – Birmingham and Southampton.

The ads let service-users speak up for public services and all feature the strapline “Vote for the party that cares on 3 May”.
