UNISON members vote to accept civil service pensions proposals

Members of UNISON in the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme (PCSPS) have

today voted to accept government ministers’ proposals to change their

pensions.

Those balloted include a broad range of scheme members including Ofsted

inspectors, police ombudsmen in Northern Ireland, Welsh Government

workers representing children in court and in regeneration and sustainability,

Innovation officers in education in Scotland as well as meat hygiene

inspectors across the UK.

The union did not recommend the deal but said it was the best available

through negotiation.

Simon Watson, UNISON National Officer, said:

“UNISON is committed to consulting all of its members in public sector

pensions schemes about what the proposals to change the pension schemes

will mean to them. Our 1000 members in the principal civil service pension

scheme have now made their voices heard.

“UNISON will now turn its focus onto the other huge issues facing members in

the Civil Service – the unacceptable pay freeze, the unjust proposed 1% pay

cap, and the daft and discriminatory idea of regional pay.”
