‘Don’t let the Tories get away with it’

Dave Prentis has signed up to pledge his support for Ken Livingstone in the London mayoral elections this week.

UNISON’s general secretary joins other high profile trade union leaders, labour politicians and supporters saying to Londoners ‘Don’t let the Tories get away with it’ and calling on them to vote Labour in Thursday’s elections.

The support is part of UNISON’s call for members to vote for public services on 3 May.

The union has funded adverts in national and local papers in England, online and on billboards in London – including Barnet where a long-running industrial dispute is taking place over outsourcing plans – Birmingham and Southampton.

The ads let service-users speak up for public services and all feature the strapline “Vote for the party that cares on 3 May”.

The union’s Labour Link has also been working directly with the Labour party to campaign for public services.

“This week’s local elections matter to all UNISON’s members and their families,” said Labour Link chair Steve Warwick.

“UNISON is campaigning on issues rooted in the everyday problems our members and their communities face: protecting jobs, doing something to support the million unemployed young people, defending the NHS, tackling crime.

“Labour has the same priorities, so electing more Labour councils can make a real difference.”
