UNISON welcomes continuing dialogue on professionalism in FE

UNISON, the lead union for support staff in Further Education (FE), welcomed the promise of continued dialogue on professionalism in the sector, signalled by the interim report from the Independent Review Panel.

The panel considered evidence that reflected a lack of unity on the way forward for teachers but also took interest in the professionalism of the wider workforce.

Representing learning and learner support staff, who range from special needs assistants to librarians and technicians supporting individual students or groups of students, UNISON welcomed the acceptance that the definition of the associate teacher role simply served to confuse colleges and blur the role of a teacher.
