“Tax the billionaires” – that’s the rallying cry from Northern Ireland singer/songwriter Tommy Sands in a new song that he wrote for the 30 November day of action – and which is now available on YouTube.
Mr Sands, a County Down musician and peace activist, unveiled the song at the 30 November rally in Belfast, and the Northern Ireland Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions has arranged for it to be recorded and made available, with an accompanying video of the rally by the Creative workers Co-op.
Obviously that cost money, and the NIC-ICTU is appealing for donations to help with the cost.
“Any contributions in excess of the cost will ONLY be used to finance our campaign against the cuts,” pledged ICTU assistant general secretary Peter Bunting.
There is a suggested scale of contributions – £50 for organisations with 1,000-6,000 members, £100 for 6,000-15,000, £200 for 15,000-50,00 – and cheques, made payable to NIC Special Fund, should be sent to NIC-ICTU at 4-6 Donegall Street Place, Belfast, BT1 2FN.
