East Mids to show solidarity and strength

Thousands of UNISON and other public service union members will be on the streets of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby on 30 November.

“It’s going to be a well-supported day and the feeling is going to be one of solidarity and strength because it won’t just be UNISON – it will be lots of other unions as well,” East Midlands regional secretary Helen Black says.

Six marches and rallies will take place on the day across the region. The main regional event in Nottingham will include a march through the city centre followed by a rally at the Albert Hall.

“Lots of people will get a real boost and real encouragement from seeing that they’re not on their own – that this isn’t just their fight,” adds Ms Black.

Details of similar events in Derby City, Chesterfield, Leicester, Lincoln and Northampton are currently being finalised.

Ms Black says that the events will include speakers working on the frontline from across the public sector.

“We want to focus our events on real people talking about what the changes mean for them, what impact it will have on them and their families and why they’re taking action.”
