
Ed Miliband backing UNISON’s fair pay campaign
Dinner ladies, working for Sodexo, a private company serving school meals to children, got the backing of Labour leadership hopeful, Ed Miliband, in the latest stage of their campaign to win better treatment at work.
The dinner ladies, some of the lowest paid* workers in schools, are demanding nationally agreed pay rates and sick pay, to bring an end to two, even three tier working conditions. The workers are demanding better health and safety, for essential kitchen equipment to be replaced more quickly, and for more staff to do the job.
The dinner ladies from a school in Richmond, spoke out at a Labour party event in Twickenham, on Sunday 29 August, 2010, along with Ed Miliband, and Deputy General Secretary of UNISON, Keith Sonnet.
