UNISON, the UK’s largest public sector trade union, today warned that 3000 job cuts at Nottinghamshire County Council would hit the local community hard, and called on the council to think again about its damaging plans.
UNISON General Secretary, Dave Prentis, said:
“The latest job loss figures show the East Midlands is being hit hard by the recession, with an increase in unemployment to 7.4%. Job cuts on this scale are a bitter blow to the local community, and will hit thousands of families in the county hard. The jobs market is tough, and people will struggle to find work elsewhere.
“UNISON is appealing to the council to think again. There is no doubt that job cuts on this scale will have a knock on effect to vital local services.”
