UNISON General Secretary, Dave Prentis, speaking at a rally and benefit gig in
the city for the 600 striking Leeds refuse workers, pledged the full support of
the union in their struggle against pay cuts and privatisation.
He said:
UNISON congratulates its members in Leeds for their determination and
courage. We stand shoulder to shoulder with them and pledge the full
support of the union in their struggle against pay cuts and privatisation.
Why should low paid workers be expected to take such massive cuts to their
salaries? The impact of pay cuts and privatisation would be devastating for
the members involved but would also affect badly the local communities
services will suffer as a result.
Today, I am launching a national appeal to all our branches to give their full
support to the striking workers in Leeds
