GOVERNMENT CLAMP DOWN ON CONTINGENCY FEE AGREEMENTS WILL HELP LOW PAID WOMEN, SAYS UNISON

UNISON today welcomed Government proposals to clamp down on no win no

fee lawyers who generate large profits in employment tribunal claims. Many

low-paid women, pursuing equal pay claims, have ended up paying a large

proportion of their damages to the lawyers. Others have been charged high

fees, out of proportion to the work involved, if they decide to change

solicitors.
