UNISON, the UK’s largest public service union, today (23 March) welcomed the Government‰Ûªs commitment to informal learning published in the White Paper A Learning Revolution.
Pam Johnson, UNISON Head of Learning and Organising, said:
‰ÛÏUNISON is hopeful that this white paper will re-ignite the movement for lifelong learning. With the recession setting in, it is crucial that adults can get the training they need to get and keep a job. However we also need vibrant life long learning sector that reaches out to those who have had the fewest opportunities.
‰ÛÏOpportunities have recently been lost in further and community education. The å£30m fund promised by the Government should help to re-balance these losses. Bringing learning into a more informal setting should also help encourage many adults put off by sitting in a classroom back into learning. Libraries could be at the forefront of these changes.‰Û
