UNISON is calling for a crackdown on violence against police staff in the wake of new statistics showing that almost 15% have been subjected to violence at work. The latest union survey* shows that custody officers are most at risk, with a shocking 21.8% needing medical treatment following an attack. In addition, more than half of custody staff have been subjected to an assault not requiring medical help, and 71.5% have been threatened with physical violence.
