UNIONS APPEAL TO MPS IN OFSTED PAY DISPUTE

Negotiators for 1000 UNISON and PCS members working in Ofsted are today (24 July) asking MPs to take time out of their summer break to lobby Ofsted employers in the latest stage of their pay battle. The unions have targeted prominent cabinet ministers such as Ed Balls, Beverley Hughes and Jim Knight as well as MPs surrounding the Ofsted offices in London, Manchester, Nottingham and Bristol.

Ofsted staff are currently working to rule, refusing to do overtime or use their personal cars for business. The move is the latest in a series of action over a below inflation three year pay award and a divisive new pay structure.

The action is disrupting the tight schedule of inspections for summer play schools, children’s homes, nurseries, boarding schools and child minding services. It is also hitting preparations for implementing a new inspection framework for the Government
