Union in last-ditch appeal to Home Secretary to grant asylum
A UNISON member, working and living in Nottingham, faces deportation in 48
hours to his native Burundi where he fears his life will be in danger.
Amdani Juma, 34, has worked in Nottingham since he fled here from Burundi
in February 2003 when fellow party members were killed by Government
militia.
He has made a new life for himself and earned the respect, trust and
admiration of many for his service to the community in Nottingham.
Of mixed Tutsi and Hutu parentage, Amdani was evacuated to Kenya by UN
troops during the Rwandan genocide. When he returned to Burundi, he was
detained, beaten and placed under surveillance.
