UNISON, the trade union for probation staff, today restated its intention to campaign to ‘Keep Probation Public’ in the face of Government plans to privatise the service.
Commenting on the Home Office blueprint for the probation service under the new National Offender Management Service, published by the Government today, UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis said:
‘ The Home Secretary’s proposals amount to the dismantling of the probation service as the public provider of probation. UNISON members in the service will be horrified at plans to abolish the existing probation boards that currently commission and provide probation.
